In an effort to enhance interoperability across chains, Polygon Labs, a provider of Ethereum scaling solutions, and The Near Foundation, the nonprofit organization that created the Near Protocol, have announced their partnership.
According to a press release, the agreement brings the Near protocol closer to Ethereum, one of the biggest blockchain networks, and allows blockchains that use WebAssembly (WASM) technology to access Ethereum’s liquidity.
The collaboration intends to develop zkWASM, a zero-knowledge prover for blockchains that use WebAssembly (WASM). By maximizing developer customizability, the zkWASM will enable users to choose from a variety of provers when building
According to the press release, “chains will also be able to access shared liquidity in a unified ecosystem of CDK-deployed chains, including alternative layer-1s, EVM layer-2s, and WASM chains, through an in-development interoperability layer in the future.”
According to the press release, Near validators will benefit from the new development more efficiently as they won’t have to perform the laborious task of validating a shard. Validators can instead produce a zero-knowledge proof, streamlining the procedure and enhancing scalability.
This year, the digital asset industry is expected to see a rise in zero-knowledge technology, a form of cryptography that does away with the need for people to regularly submit personal information to different websites or online applications. We are honored to work with Near.
Co-founder of Polygon Sandeep Nailwal said, “We’re close to this exciting research initiative to further drive the development and adoption of ZK technology.” Projects using the Polygon Chain Development Kit (CDK) will be able to choose from a variety of provers when building, whether that be for launching or migrating an EVM chain or creating a WASM chain for closer Ethereum alignment and liquidity access. This is because the zkWASM prover maximizes developer customizability.
This is an unprecedented move!
What is it?@0xpolygonlabs and @NEARfoundation are going to build a zkWASM Prover which will allow any WASM chain to prove on Ethereum and have Ethereum Layer2 security
Why is this important?
