A hacker stole 750 SOL, or about $60,000. The community-run fan club for Solana’s sold-out phone, Saga DAO, lost a significant portion of its funds on Wednesday.
Hacker seems to have targeted zkRedDevil, the pseudonymous founder of Saga DAO. zkRedDevil claimed in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that they experienced a “remote hack” on their personal computer, depleting their SOL as well as the group’s, which had been stored in a wallet that lacked multisig protections.
Weeks-old Saga DAO, which is currently just a Discord channel where Saga owners discuss the benefits their phones are receiving, such as free tokens and NFTs, has suffered a significant financial blow due to the attack. Posts in Saga DAO’s Discord account indicate that the reason for their SOL loss was that they sold a “pre-launch shitcoin” that they had acquired less than a week prior.
Following the windfall, the founders of Saga DAO stepped up their efforts to strengthen the organization by establishing official regulations and governance frameworks that would give owners of Saga phones—Android smartphones with unique crypto capabilities on Solana—more control.
