Japanese firms continue to embrace Bitcoin amid global market volatility, with Metaplanet and ANAP Holdings boosting their crypto portfolios.
Tokyo-listed Metaplanet has announced another substantial Bitcoin (BTC) acquisition, purchasing 330 BTC as the cryptocurrency soared above $87,300. This latest buy brings the firm’s total holdings to 4,855 BTC—valued at over $420 million at current prices. The move marks Metaplanet’s third BTC purchase this month, reinforcing its bullish stance despite broader market uncertainties.
Becoming a Top Bitcoin Holder
Earlier this month, Metaplanet achieved a key milestone by becoming the tenth-largest publicly-listed holder of Bitcoin. As other markets falter, the company appears committed to strengthening its BTC position as a strategic reserve asset. Its consistent buying streak signals confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term performance, especially during periods of macroeconomic instability.
ANAP Holdings Joins the Crypto Trend
Metaplanet isn’t alone in Japan’s corporate pivot toward Bitcoin. Fashion retailer ANAP Holdings recently acquired approximately 16.6591 BTC, valued at around 200 million yen (approximately $1.4 million). The purchase was executed via its subsidiary, ANAP Lightning Capital, which will manage the asset. The firm will conduct quarterly market value assessments, adjusting its financials to reflect any gains or losses in BTC value.
Bitcoin Outperforms Amid Market Turmoil
Bitcoin’s resilience has stood out amid financial market turbulence. Following President Trump’s announcement of reciprocal tariffs earlier in April, U.S. equities saw a dramatic $5.4 trillion wipeout, with the Nasdaq plummeting 11%. In contrast, BTC dropped just 6% and quickly rebounded. Metaplanet’s stock has also seen a modest boost, rising nearly 0.9% since market open.
While global markets navigate uncertainty, Japanese firms like Metaplanet and ANAP Holdings are doubling down on Bitcoin as a hedge and strategic asset. With increasing corporate adoption and relatively stable performance compared to traditional equities, Bitcoin continues to solidify its role in diversified investment strategies.
